Storage: Store soft brown sugar in an airtight container. You may also freeze brown sugar for extended storage. (Thaw before use.) To Soften Brown Sugar - Microwave: Place about 1/2 lb hardened sugar in microwave-safe bowl. Cover sugar with 2 wet paper towels. Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and heat in microwave on High for 1-1/2 minutes (microwave ovens vary in power; cooking time may need adjustment). Use a fork to break up sugar (sugar will be hot); stir. Use immediately. Overnight Softening: Place about 1/2 lb hardened brown sugar in a bowl. Cover sugar with 2 wet paper towels. Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Let stand overnight at room temperature. Use a fork to break up sugar; stir. Use immediately.
